What sets Sheldon Cleaners apart from the competition more than anything, is our use of safe and eco-friendly cleaning solvents. Thanks to our Ecotouch System™, we use a biodegradable solvent that eliminates the harsh environmental effects of traditional dry cleaning.
Ecotouch is a replacement for perchloroethylene (PERC), a synthetic solvent still used by 85% of dry cleaners—but not Sheldon. PERC is classified as a hazardous waste that can pollute the air and drinking water, and is also considered a toxin. PERC can harm the human brain and central nervous system, damage to the liver and kidneys, and even cause cancer.

Sheldon Cleaners was founded by George Cares on Sheldon Boulevard in Grand Rapids. Today, George's sons, Paul and Louie Cares, are proud to carry on the legacy of their father. ​Some of Paul and Louie’s best memories as kids are helping their dad around the shop, putting hanger guards on wire hangers, and modeling rental tuxedos. They always knew they would grow up to be a part of Sheldon.
